07. COP27 Did it deliver on its promise?
COP27 will go down in history as the UN climate change conference where the Loss and Damage fund was agreed. After decades of pushing, this is a momentous victory for climate-vulnerable developing countries. It has often been said that climate action is moving from target-setting into the implementation phase. What COP27 shows is that, as the implementation phase begins, integrity and accountability will be ever more critical. However, the consensus is that there was insufficient progress on the energy transition both in and around COP27. Few countries increasing the ambition of their NDCs, although Australia and the European Union (EU) did. So was COP27 a success or did it leave us wanting and needing more. We discuss those issues in the latest issue of Net Zero Hero where I am joined by Dr Alexander Schmidt- Head of Science and Climate Research at Normative, Alex Hunter- CEO at Sherwood Power & Dr James Crosby - Head of Sustainability at Advantage Utilities.
